Phragmites

Phragmites australis

Why is it a problem?

Phragmites create dense monocultures that severely limit wildlife access to reliable food sources and shelter. By outcompeting native plant species, they reduce plant diversity in affected areas. Often found in wetlands and coastal regions, Phragmites not only threaten local biodiversity but also make these environments less accessible.

How To Identify?

Phragmites can grow anywhere from 6 to 20 feet tall. The leaves are a flat, bluish-green, ranging from 10 to 20 inches long. These leaves grip onto the stem. The stems are a dull tan/green that grow horizontally. Phragmites form dense seed heads that are purplish brown.
