Join CAKE CISMA and the Walloon Lake Association & Conservancy for a hands-on day of habitat restoration at Wildwood Harbor Preserve, where we'll be planting native wildflowers

Time & Location
May 16, 2026, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Wildwood Harbor Preserve, 3899 Wildwood Harbor Rd, Boyne City, MI 49712, USA
About the event
Help CAKE CISMA and the Walloon Lake Association & Conservancy create pollinator habitat at Wildwood Harbor Nature Area! Thanks to our new seed library—funded by the Charlevoix County Community Foundation—we recently started native wildflower seeds at a volunteer workshop, and now those seedlings are ready for their permanent home. Join us as we plant them into a former golf fairway that was cleared of invasive species several years ago and is now being transformed into vibrant pollinator habitat.
The Basics:
CAKE CISMA and WLAC will provide gloves, tools, and guidance for the planting. We’ll walk you through everything you need to know and share how this project is helping convert a once-managed turf area into diverse native habitat that supports bees, butterflies, and other wildlife. No prior experience necessary, just come ready to get your hands dirty! This activity is moderately active and may involve bending, kneeling, and walking on uneven ground.
What should I bring?
Dress for the weather—layers are always a good idea
Sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots
Long pants (recommended for comfort and protection)
A reusable water bottle and snacks
Sunscreen and bug spray
Your favorite pair of garden gloves, if preferred
Directions:
Please meet at the Wildwood Harbor Nature Area trailhead on Wildwood Harbor Road, just northeast of the entrance to the Wildwood on Walloon subdivision. The preserve is approximately 8 minutes from Boyne City and 9 minutes from the Village of Walloon Lake. Look for preserve signage at the trailhead parking area.
If weather or other conditions require cancellation, we will notify registered participants via email. Thank you for helping us continue restoring this special place! For questions, please contact CAKE CISMA at cakecisma@macd.org or (231) 533-8363 ext. 5.
