About the event

Are you fascinated by the plants and animals that call our region home? Do you enjoy sharing your observations with others and want to contribute to the protection and understanding of local natural areas?

Join staff from CAKE CISMA, the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy and volunteers from GreenER for a hands-on Community Science Excursion around Elk Rapids. This event is perfect for anyone curious about nature and interested in learning how to use the powerful, easy-to-use community science app, iNaturalist.

Participants will be guided through the basics of the iNaturalist app—how to record and submit observations of native and invasive species—and will learn how these efforts contribute to scientific research and conservation decision-making from the local to international level.

Please download the iNaturalist app to your smartphone in advance or indicate in your registration that you'd like to borrow a CAKE CISMA tablet for the event. GTRLC & CAKE staff along with GreenER volunteers will be on hand to assist with app navigation and species identification.

This event is free and open to all ages. Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or just starting out, your curiosity and observations can make a difference!
