About the event
Help CAKE CISMA and the Walloon Lake Association & Conservancy restore and protect the beautiful forests surrounding Walloon Lake through invasive plant removal! Spring wildflowers, trees, and shrubs that support pollinators, birds, and other wildlife are at risk of being displaced by aggressive invasive species like garlic mustard.
For this volunteer session, we will focus on removing garlic mustard, an early-season invasive plant that spreads quickly and outcompetes native vegetation. By pulling garlic mustard before it goes to seed, volunteers can make a lasting impact on the health of this special landscape.
The Basics:
CAKE CISMA and the Walloon Lake Association & Conservancy will supply gloves and any tools necessary for the work session. We will teach you everything you need to know about plant identification, proper removal techniques, safety, and why this work matters. No prior experience is necessary—just come ready to learn and lend a hand!
This activity is moderately strenuous, with volunteers frequently bending and kneeling to pull plants.
